A quick glance at Oman' s 1996 Statistical Yearbook (published
in August 1997) and at the 1993 General Census of Population,
Housing and establishments seems to indicate that there are
no statistics on languages at all.

Both publications are published by the Ministry of Development
which incorporates Oman's statistical agency. Information on these
and other publications is avaiable from the Ministry's website at
http://www.modevelop.com

The 1996 statistical yearbook gives Dhofar's total population as
222,000 of which 77,830 are not Omani nationals (p. 48).

I suggest you contact other researchers working on the MSA such
as Dr. Werner Arnold (formerly at Heidelberg, but left for another
German university) and Dr. H.J. Stroomer, Rijksuniversiteit Leiden,
vakgroep Talen en Culturen van het Ismamitische Midden-Oosten,
Postbus 9515, 2300 RA Leiden, Fax +31-71-5272038.

I also suggest you send details on your research for the webpage
on Oman Research in Progress at http://www.oman.org/research.htm
