[oman-l] Specialized lists?

Hello everyone,

This is a reply to a message in which Joachim wonders if a separate mail
lists for each and every topic related to Oman is aproperiate at this time.
In my opinion, I do not think this is necessary at the moment since
subscribers to the one Oman-L are few and the average e-mails sent through
the list do not exceed in average 10-15/week. One way to deal with
unwatented mail is that the sender write key words or the contents info in
the subject heading of the mail mesage. This way people can tell if they
really need to read such a message or not. Sure the "key words" should be
few and meaningful.
Other thing that happens sometimes is the server outage. I personally tried
to send SQU net address 3 times and never been sent. It turned out that the
mail list server is down and those messages were sent later on, although
our mail server returned them to me everytime I sent them. So that is
probably a problem that can not be solved and people has to bear up with
that.

In the future as Joachim mentioned there will be a need for sub lists when
many people ( e.g. Omanis, like students) get into e-mails and internet and
have enthusiasm to participitate in discussions, but for now Oman-l seems
enough from my personal point of view.

Despite the fact that some e-mails are not so interesting, they are of
interest to some. Like web pages of AL-Watan Newspaper for example.
Although does not help non-Arabic readers, it does mean a lot to us the
students abroad when we knew about it. The same applies for other emails of
a specific subject. At the end someone has to sacrifice and click on
"Delete" on the key board if does not like some mail :-)

By the way, I found Ministry of Development web site at:
http://www.modevelp.com
if interested in Oman economics, national statistics, five-year plans, go
fot it.
