[oman-l] Sport in Oman.

You'll get a deluge of responses I guess, but basically Gulf friends 
say the traditional (i.e.orthdox  religious view was that it was 
better to be a student than a sports-person, buit with the huge 
fortunes to be made in football particularly in Arab countries in 
the Gulf young guys probably don't really feel like that any more. I 
guess you know they are all football-crazy. Just as their 
educational achievement is generally VERY low (one suspects because 
of the governmental structures that support the status quo rather 
than fostering improvement and development) I wonder if sports 
coaching also lacks modern ideas. With the amount of African 
ancestry it is odd to me too that better athletes at least have not 
been produced. Mind you the climate is very enervating and even 
purebred Arabian stallions (which are generally ridden throughout 
the region) are not the fiery dangerous creatures they are in the 
rest of the world. Perhaps the climate has some effect on the 
vitality of the blood in the Gulf region.
