Greetings,

There is not any apparent direct or implicit correlation between the Islamic
faith and the level of "world-class" or "Olympic-class" sports activities in
many countries of the Middle East or elsewhere in the world-wide Islamic
community ("Ummah"). 

Perhaps a more salient reason for such modest participation is that many
countries - especially those in the Arabian Peninsula and Gulf region - have
only recently started developing their national sports programs, with most of
those only since the late 1960s. Sports medicine - especially orthopaedics -
is a related and rising field of interest and involvement.
