Hi,
I am going to travel to Oman in February 1998 with some friends of
mine and we are planning to extend our journey to the Republic of
Yemen. We are a little concerned about how to cross the border from
Oman to Yemen.
A flight will be too expensive for us and we have heared that there is
no official bus or taxi crossing the border on land. The embassy of
Yemen in Austria told us that there are ships travelling from SALALAH
to AL GHAYDAH and AL MUKALLA. If this information is true this would
be the best way for us to go. But I also got some information that
this ship route is not operating at the moment.
Do you know if there are ships going from Salalah to Al Mukalla or
somewhere else in Yemen regularly and if this is so at what time and
how often are the ships runnig from Salalah. If a travelling by ship
is not possible have you any idea about crossing the border on land?
Is it possible to hitchhike or go on a truck?
Do we need any special road permits to cross the border or is it ok
with the visa for the republic of Yemen?
thanks for your help
we are all looking forward to visit your beautiful country
