Gwendolyn,
What are the western agendas?
IMHO, the western press are very supportive to the terrorists by criticizing
the authorities way of chasing down the same terrorists. And when the
soldiers are to scared to chase into enemies territory they are criticized
for that. Lately there are even allegations that the government itself are
the terrorists - without a single proof - just that "what's happening is
giving bonus to the present regime". And why do the "terrorists" not deny
the butching they are blamed for.
To view Algeria with European or "western" eyes is not fair. A social
problem exists there and is probably the cause for the present situation,
but I have every understanding for any governments resentment to "going
Iran" or Afghanistan. Not many years ago it was a popular method to threw
acid into unveiled women's eyes in Teheran, and the situation for women in
Afghanistan is no secret.
I have had the privilege to live in a Muslim country where Women are treated
like Women (Oman) and have the same rights as men, and I resent any place
where the fundamentalists, Muslim, Christian or Jewish, deny that right.
Tommy
