I'm sorry that Ibri is getting such a poor write up from
other subscribers. I think it is a lovely place.
Mention has already been made of the old mud brick town of
Al-Sulaif (spelling?) close by. Excellent to explore and
some wonderful photographs to be taken. On the hills around
Ibri there are bee-hive tombs to be investigated. A visit
to the nearby dam is worth while to see simple, effective
engineering at its best.
Nearby is the ancient site of Bat, which has been well
documented in the Journal of Oman Studies. Around and about
there are many villages with old buildings still in
reasonable repair, and lovely, cooling date palm gardens.
For the more adventurous there is a drive to the coast
through Wadi Hawasina.
'Entertainment' in Ibri is not what one might expect - pubs,
cinemas and discos are not exactly thick on the ground.
There are a couple of restaurants, and one may promenade up
and down the main street. You are expected to sit with your
friends and talk about life, the universe and - well,
everything!! If you get bored with this, go and watch a
television somewhere. Oman is not about entertainment -
it's about exploring a magnificent country, and interacting
with it's delightful people.
