Oman has beautiful arabic architecture. There's no need for something
artificial like Jubail there. Jubail will live only as long as oil remains,
the same with it's "twin" Yanbua. I see nothing directly wrong with these
cities, but they lack the original Arabic scent. In time they will be Ghost
cities.
There's nothing Oman needs to copy from Saudi Arabia.

Haven't checked the site below yet, but I can't understand why there's a
need more settlements in the Saudi desert. The water resourced in the Gulf
is already overused, and desalination has it's limits.

>Thanks for the info. You know this "Future Cities" business is really
>catching fire. See <www.ifremer.fr/oceans98/> re the "Oceans '98"
>Conference later this year. It is focused on the development of
>economically self-sufficient shoreline or floating habitats. Sponsors are
>the IEEE and European Union of Marine and Science Technologies.
>Now, if such habitats can be built anywhere on the seas they can be built
>in the most foreboding deserts if we apply the best of technology there
too.
>Saudi Arabia built a totally new high tech city called Jubail. How about
>such a city for Oman, a "New Ubar" if you will.?
