In a recent e-mail, Paul Rogers said:

Roger Webster, who used to be (and maybe still is) with
Exeter Uni, has studied the Bedu extensively. (The term
'Bedouin' is, of course, fraught with difficulties). Willie
Lancaster is an idependent researcher into the Bedu - he
lives on a Scottish Island. Tom Gabriel also researches the
Bedu. Gigi Crocker knows the traditional crafts, and has
been involved in projects to try to adapt these craft to
serve a modern economy. To contact any of these folk, try
the Royal Geographic Society - they were all involved with
the RGS Oman Wahiba Sands Project, written up in the Journal
of Oman Studies, Special Report No 3 dated 1988. A visit to
Sinaw will put you in touch with an extensive community of
Bedu, who have ceased wandering, largely to try to ensure a
good education for their children. Spend time there, and
win their trust, and they may put you in touch with some
families who still wander in the sands.

I hope that other folk can answer you queries about Salalah.

Tooddle pip!!
