His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said opened the second term of the Council of
Oman on Saturday with a long speech outlining the progress Oman has made in
the last 30 years.
I include an extract from Sunday's report in the Times of Oman which began
the article. It concerns foreign policy

MUSCAT - His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said yesterday affirmed full support
for "the Arab people's right to regain their lands, which were occupied in
1967".
"We also steadfastly support the Palestinian people's right to
self-determination and their right to establish their own independent state
on their national soil with Jerusalem as its capital," His Majesty the
Sultan said in his speech delivered at the opening of the Council of Oman's
second term yesterday.
His Majesty opened the second term.
His Majesty the Sultan said he looked forward to meeting leaders of the Arab
Gulf Cooperation Council (AGCC) states, where the Omani side would be guests
of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Isa bin Sulman Al Khalifa, emir of Bahrain.
"We shall work together to propel the Council forward towards greater
coordination, integration, cooperation and mutual support for the benefit of
the peoples of the region and all mankind."
His Majesty noted that Oman's foreign policy is based on certain fundamental
principles, from which they have not deviated since the dawn of the
Renaissance. "These principles spring from our conviction that one should
strive towards the goals that bring benefits and peace for all, that support
just causes at international gatherings, and that one should strengthen the
ties of cooperation with our brothers in the Arab and Islamic states and our
friends throughout the world.
