OMAN: DIPLOMATIC APPOINTMENTS
[GulfWire ] Royal decrees issued by Sultan Qaboos on August 29 announced
various diplomatic postings including the transfer of Oman's Ambassador to
the USA, Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Uqail al-Dhahab, to
the General Diwan of the Foreign Ministry. Oman's current ambassador to
Japan, Mohammed bin Ali bin Thani al-Khusaibi, was named as the Sultanate's
new ambassador to the United States of America.
NEW GERMAN AMBASSADOR FOR OMAN
Wolfgang Erck, until present Germany's ambassador to Vietnam and formerly
ambassador to Lebanon, is to replace Dr. Peter Dassel as Germany's
ambassador in Muscat. Ambassador Dr. Peter Dassel retired from the
diplomatic service at the age of 65 at the end of August 2000.
DR. STRENZIOK, FORMER GERMAN AMBASSADOR TO OMAN DIES
Dr. Gert Strenziok, Germany's ambassador to Oman 1987-1990, died in Aachen,
Germany, on 12 August 2000 already. The burial will take place at
Bensheim-Auerbach (Friedhofskapelle) next Friday, 8 September 2000, at
11.00 hours.
