[Oman-l] Tourism in the Gulf

Kuwait, Dubai, Saudi and Qatar have established 'directions' for their =
tourism, but from recent e-mail discussions I can see that the general =
opinion is that Oman's 'direction' is less clear.  Having worked in some =
of these Gulf states, I find it very interesting that Oman is the only =
one that has already established its tourist shops, both in the souks =
and modern shopping malls.  In Kuwait I managed to find 4 such shops, =
hidden away in a small village, but in Qatar, I never found a =
'gift/traditional craft' shop yet.  The only Qatari presents I found to =
bring back to the UK were videos of Qatar (how it is now and how it was =
in the past).

Is the Omani retail industry so ready for tourists because they've =
learned from all the cruise and war ships that have visited the port?  =
Why haven't other states followed their example?
