OMAN BANKS' STATEMENT FILING TIME SHARPLY REDUCED
CBO has instructed banks to be ready to file their financial statements for
2001 on or before January 31, 2002. This will reduce the period for filing
the financial statements from three months to one.

BANK CORRUPTION ATTACKED
[GulfWire] The head of the Oman Development Bank was sentenced to
four years in prison as part of a corruption crackdown according to
Reuters on May 31. It said Murtadha bin Mohammed bin Hassan was
found guilty of "misuse of position, negligence and violating the
administrative system that led to damaging revenues" of the bank.
According to an analyst cited by Reuters, "Oman knows that it has to
flush out corruption to successfully attract foreign capital in the country.
It also badly needs to clamp down on bourse fraud to win back investor

CANADA FIRMS WIN GAS TRANSPORT DEAL
[GulfWire] A Canadian-led joint venture will manage Oman's gas
transportation system following the award of a $22.6 million deal according
to Reuters on May 30. Canada's Enbridge International and BC Gas
International along with Oman's OHI Group will operate and maintain the
system for five years starting in January 2002.

OMAN PICKS 4 CONSORTIA AS AIRPORT DEAL FINALISTS
.A civil aviation official said the Gulf state expects the firm that wins
the management contract to invest $100 million in upgrading the airports
over the next 10 years.

OMAN: EQUAL RIGHTS TO GCC CITIZENS
[GulfWire] Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman has issued a Royal Decree
allowing the citizens of GCC countries to be treated as Omani employees
in accordance with the Sultanate's Civil Service Law and its executive
regulations according to Arif Ali writing for Gulf News on June 1.
The decree serves to implement one of the decisions made by the
GCC Supreme Council last December in an effort to build closer links
