I can certainly recommend Colin Richardson's book, Masirah, Tales from a
Desert Island. The book's central theme is the development of the airfield
on the island from 1929 on a year by year basis and the part it played in
regional events. Packed with photographs, maps and illustrations, it
nonetheless deals with the pre-history of the island to the twentieth
century and includes accounts of prominent visitors, the 1977 cyclone,
fishing, birds and many other items of general interest in addition to
those of the second world war, Jebel Akhdar campaign and other military
matters in and around Oman.

It is a fascinating book which I thoroughly enjoyed and which I am sure
will be of great interest to anyone interested in the Oman. For those who
have worked and lived in Oman like myself it is of particular interest as
many of the people mentioned (there is a separate index of people) are
familiar or known.

I have spoken to Colin today and have put his flyer and details of how to
purchase the book at http://www.dataxinfo.com/masirah for those are interested.
