[Oman-L] demonstrations

Perhaps the concept known as Occam's razor (after William of Occam) is
useful in explaining these events. http://pespmc1.vub.ac.be/OCCAMRAZ.html

"one should not increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities
required to explain anything"

One vision holds that some all-powerful evil agency (CIA? Mossad?) trained
people who claimed to be Islamist militants, who attended radical mosques,
trained in Afghanistan, and had ties to people linked to UBL. This evil
force conspired with the FBI, CIA, White House, FAA, NSA, NRO, and the
Shriners (why not?) to permit this atrocity to justify a war on Afghanistan.
Why America wants to expend blood and treasure bombing a country with no
valuable resources, little strategic significance, complicated tribal
politics, and difficult terrain, while alienating vital allies in a
petroleum producing region is never explained. In this vision, sinister
forces in America act against their citizens and against their own
strategic, economic, and political interests solely because they want to
kill Muslims.

Instead, I would suggest that the people who seem to be Islamist militants
really are Islamist militants, that the reason the US intelligence agencies
allowed this to happen is that they didn't know about it, the Pentagon
failed to stop the attack because it didn't have fighter planes in the area,
nor enough time to intercept the hijacked airliners and, most importantly,
it never occurred to anyone that people would commit such an evil act.

Instead, seemingly intelligent people put their faith in visions of vast
conspiracies.

I find it hard to believe that people in the Middle East can be so gullible.
As someone who has lived in the region, has studied the region, and has
respect for its people and traditions, I find this to be the worst part of
this disaster.

Thanks for your attention. Your thoughts, on or off list, are always
welcome.

Maybe the USA needed a new public enemy and a reason to start a war against
the
Afg. They didn't had the reason so they created it. Maybe is Bush the anymal
not ibn Ladin. If the people is willing to belive that one man is able to
sacrifice so many lives for it's sick goals then why not the other one?
