Muhammad, this is how I would have responded to the learned gentleman's statement.(the problem with Washington political elite and on both sided of the Potamic river is that there are too many useless or useful to only IPAC institutes that have very blurb vision about the MidEast.
First a surprised response: Holly cow!! You really have read lots bad books, or you had seriously Stephen King like teachers, whichever the case may be you have some far-fetched imagination!
Then a more thoughtful response: there are some inherited facts to your analysis, however, please allow me to correct you on these points since I can’t rewrite the whole piece from scratch;
1- The Arabian Gulf is very different location then the Persian one, if you are from Lingha, on the Iran coast, yes is called the Persian Gulf, however, if you sitting in Ras Tanourah, Saudi Arabia, then you have the Arabian Gulf, noting that the whole concept of the Persian Gulf is very much used by the Americans for a very particular and self-serving reasons that we are all to familiar with. Equally important, this is not the point of conflict, but the real problem lies with the American naval presence in the Gulf waters, and that’s why the Iranians are so paranoid. Period!
2- The title of Khadim Al Haramein Al Sharifein is new in the Muslim World and had never been used or served for anybody defunct or dead Caliphates, (I wonder where on earth you get that from)! Moreover, there’s a gross and intentional mistranslation of the Arabic word “Khadim” which simply means “Servant” in English, in it’s most basic translation from Arabic, on the contrary the word “The Custodian” means “Haami” in Arabic which basically means “the Protector” or the one who safe keeps something of value, hence, “The Custodian” is only Allah (SWT), but not by anyone individual alone.
Moreover, in the daily usage of the word Khadim in this connects in the Kingdom implies the King, as a humble servant of the two Grand Mosques, and it has never been associated with any other form of usage. Strange enough, King Fahd when he decided to use this as a title his sole intention was to appease the ultra-orthodox elements in the Saudi Ulama in order to make sure that he does not fall in the same trap as Shah by using such a majestic title as the King.
3- Wahabism is not a creed, but rather a School of Though and is part of the Sunnah teachings and is very similar to other four major school of thoughts found among the Sunnah followers, it’s however, bewildering that you have consider it out side of the Sunnah Schools, the rest of your statements is largely self-serving hence, I opt to leave it as such, since I couldn’t make much out of it.
You know, one of my college professors once told me that Abe Lincoln in his famous quote “You can fool some people some time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time” was particularly referring to a writer friend of his whom he though was trying to tell him too much a stuff without much of regard to the truth, oddly, I do feel exactly the same about your analyses.
But for all intent and purposes, I have an advice for you, learn the Arabic language then about the Islamic Religion and it’s “Fiqh”, then go on to write a political analysis about it.
