Regarding Mr Petersens detailed posting
Very interesting. Several points.Firstly I return to my initial question
about the state of the economy dring the rule of Sultan Said.Is it correct
or not correct to suggest that the economy had reverted to Mediaeval
conditions? I may be applying some hyperbole here but I am sure you get the
drift. Is there any data, anecdotal ortherwise, regarding what the economic
conditions were like ?
Secondly I notice you refer to the introduction of the riyal Dhufari as
being introduced in Dhufar.I have worked through the Bank of England
archives on Oman and found several references to discussion about this, which
I plan to write up, but no conclusive statements that it was ever
introduced.Perhaps you can help me out here.
I am still puzzled about how much of the oil revenues which started to
accumulate after 1964 were actually spent. A few schools here and there may
not have added up to much.Again is it possible that most of the revenues
remained in his personal bank accounts ?
I have also worked through some of the autobiographies of serving miltary
personnel and although interesting ,in my case anyway ,did not shed much
light apart from on military campaigns in Dhufar etc
