Dear friends,

I am currently working on a children's book about Oman. Earlier this =
year a book of mine about the country was published and it is now =
available from major booksellers. It was with help from several Oman-L =
subscribers that I was able to find important details. Many thanks =
especially to Sue Hutton, Valerie Hoffman and Mahmoud Alhussaini, whose =
advice and tips were extremely valuable to my research.

Now I'm embarking on a second book about Oman, this one aimed at a =
younger group - children from the ages of 8 to 13. To make it more =
interesting for the children, I'm looking for details such as:

* common activities for Omani children, such as games and songs
* the role of children in Omani society - attitudes toward childrearing =
as compared to the West and as compared to other Arab countries
* typical Omani recipes - I need 5 to 8 recipes, to be reprinted in the =
book
* a calendar of Omani festivals, particularly with the role that =
children play in these festivals.
* stories about Omani heroes and historical figures that might involve =
their activities as children, or adventures that would be interesting =
for children.

In particular, I'm interested in the legends of Sinbad, which I'm told =
originated in the area that is now Sohar. Are those stories still told =
to Omani children? How might they have evolved differently from the =
versions told in the West?

Any thoughts or leads on the subject would be much appreciated. Thanks =
for reading this message.

Asalam walaikum
