[Oman-L] How to reach Oman overland

Dear All,

my wife and me are planning to visit Oman this winter. We will be travelling
by motorcycles from Germany overland via Turkey. As far as I know - besides
visa-problems - women are not allowed to drive cars neither ride a motorcycle
in Saudi Arabia. 

A good and interesting alternative seems to be the route via Iran though we
will have to cross the Straight of Hormuz then. Can you help us with
information of crossing the Straight of Hormuz from Iran to Oman or the UAE?
