Dubai to be hub of Gulf ferry service

ABU DHABI, JAN 15, 2001 (WAM)--Dubai is to be the hub for a new
luxury boat ferry service operating between marinas in Iran and the
Gulf cities, following the launch yesterday of a new ferry service
linking Dubai and Iran. The ferry service, which will become fully
operational next week, is a joint venture of Tavous Beheshti Kish
Co. (TBK) of Iran and Al Rais Travel & Shipping Agencies of the UAE,
which will also be the GSA for the service, reports in the UAE's
dailies said. The first luxury boat of the TBK, dubbed Tavous 1,
arrived at Port Rashid's temporary cruise terminal on Saturday. It
sailed back to Kish Island after a showing to travel industry and
media personnel yesterday. TBK will acquire four more of the
Norwegian built boats at a total investment of 50 million US
dollars, said Managing Director Adel Khodabandeh. From January
20, there will be three Dubai-Kish-Dubai sailings a week, with two
Dubai-Bandar Lengeh-Dubai sailings in between, said M.J. Tehrani,
General Manager of Al Rais Travel. This summer Tavous 2 will be
able to offer summer breaks between Dubai to Bahrain and Bandar
Abbas as well as ports of the UAE. In between sailings, the boats
can also be chartered for weddings, ceremonies and private parties,
Tehrani said. The service will be later extended to operate from
Dubai to other Gulf states, the reports added. WAM-VV
